Academic Policies

During the COVID-19 pandemic, CSU implemented academic policy adjustments to increase flexibility for students. Students were able to switch any of their earned letter grades to a Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory (S/U) grade after grades were posted and the course withdrawal deadline was extended. The 2020, 2021, and 2022 reports describe how students utilized these policies and summarize correlations between these adjustments and student success metrics.

The 2013 report examines an S/U program piloted in the Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering for the FA10 through FA12 cohorts. The study utilized a propensity score analysis to estimate the treatment effect of program participation on future student success. Overall, the S/U program does not appear to have a significant impact on student success outcomes for engineering students.
