Learning Outcomes

CSU has clearly stated general education, disciplinary specific and co-curricular student learning outcomes (SLOs) that support one or more of our Institutional Learning Objectives (ILOs).  Learning outcomes are reviewed regularly to ensure they are clearly stated and appropriate.

Institutional Learning Outcomes

The ILOs were finalized in 2019 after an extensive and collaborative development process including staff and faculty that began in 2017.  They are intended to provide a framework for curricular and co-curricular coherence regardless of degree level; they are conceptually linked to our Principles of Community and aligned with individual course and program-level learning outcomes.

General Education

General education SLOs are described in the All-University Core Curriculum (AUCC) and speak to the basic skills and competencies common to all undergraduate degree programs.  Each of the courses within the AUCC also have course-level SLOs.  The Colorado Commission on Higher Education has approved many of these courses for inclusion in the Guaranteed Transfer (GT) Pathways program which regulates the SLOs to ensure transferability across Colorado Institutions.  For more information on the GT Pathways program, please visit the Colorado Department of Higher Education website.

Disciplinary

Disciplinary SLOs are unique to each degree and degree level.  They distinguish a single program of study from any other program of study offered at CSU.  SLOs are available in the general catalog in the program description.  Assessment of SLOs and use of assessment results are documented through the academic program review process.

Co-Curricular

Co-curricular SLOs address the personal and academic development of our students.  They make transparent to students that learning is initiated and reinforced everywhere, both inside and outside the classroom.
